Steve Walsh Appointed President, CEO of American Hospital Association

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has officially announced the appointment of Steve Walsh as its next president and chief executive officer. Walsh, who has led the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) since 2017, is set to take the helm of the nation’s largest hospital and healthcare system membership organization this fall. He succeeds current leadership at the AHA, which represents nearly 5,000 hospitals, health systems, and healthcare networks across the United States.

As the head of the MHA, Walsh oversaw advocacy for more than 70 hospital and health system members, focusing on workforce stability and the integration of care delivery systems. His tenure in Massachusetts has been characterized by his efforts to bridge the gap between healthcare providers, private payers, and state policymakers to address systemic barriers to care.

Walsh brings more than two decades of experience in the healthcare sector to his new role.

Before his time at the MHA, Walsh developed a legal and policy background that has informed his approach to hospital administration. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, the New England School of Law, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
