A dramatic incident occurred during a Taca de Portugal match when Sporting Lisbon‘s Luis Suárez was involved in a collision that resulted in a severe leg injury to AVS player Antoine Baroan. The 25-year-old Baroan suffered a fractured tibia and fibula during the challenge, which was described as unintentional.
Immediately following the incident, players from both teams urgently called for medical attention for Baroan. While Suárez initially remained on the ground due to the impact, he was able to get up without apparent injury.Though, upon realizing the severity of Baroan’s injury, suárez visibly expressed distress and was comforted by his teammates.
Despite the unfortunate event, the match continued, and Sporting Lisbon ultimately secured a 3-2 victory in extra time. Geny Catamo scored the winning goal in the 117th minute, propelling Sporting into the semi-finals of the Taca de Portugal, were they will face Porto.
