A hybrid took first place in the GreenerCars ranking for 2024
Can a CNG car be greener than an all-electric vehicle? The annual GreenerCars ranking, the results of which have just been published, shows just that.
This year’s win went to a hybrid car that beat out all the others. The second to fifth places are for all-electric cars, but at the same time, it is this model that also achieves one of the worst results this year.
The study itself is conducted by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), and cars are evaluated on several indicators. These are harmful emissions emitted during the entire life cycle of the specific model – from production to scrapping, as well as the production and consumption of the energy needed for the propulsion system, as well as harmful emissions emitted from the exhaust.

The model name is followed by its powertrain, ranking points, MSRP as new in the US and fuel costs for one year.
The winner this year is the Toyota Prius Prime SE with a score of 71 points. ACEEE estimates that in the U.S., a year’s worth of Prius fuel costs $529. The Japanese model wins the first place for the third time, and this is mainly due to the body shape, low weight and technologies that make the Prius very efficient on the road.
After the Prius, there are 4 electric cars that also recorded high results. However, not all EVs can boast such ratings. GreenerCars also publishes a list of “Worst Cars”, or the least efficient and least environmentally friendly vehicles.

For the first time, an electric vehicle has entered it, and it is, quite logically, the huge GMC Hummer EV. In fact, according to this ranking, it is less environmentally friendly than the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
