A power outage appears to have struck the Brisbane Lions once again, with the start to a pre-season clash with Sydney delayed after the lights went out at Blacktown.

Minutes before the match was set to begin, the lights at Blacktown International Sportspark went out, with players and officials bemused and coming from the ground.

“Just spoke to the AFL. They’re unsure what the problem is at this stage so both teams have been asked to go back into the rooms and they’ll let us know in due course what’s going on, when play will resume, if it will resume,” Lions footy boss Danny Daly told Fox Footy.

“We’ll just await their word.”

Adding to the bizarre lead-up to the match, a snake catcher was called out to the dark field to collect a slippery spectator.

The lights eventually began to turn back on, with a start time of 7:40pm set.

Longer breaks between quarters were scrapped as a result.

The Swans are set to unveil a host of fresh faces including recruit Taylor Adams in a final dress rehearsal for Opening Round against grand finalist Brisbane.

Adams will make his first appearance for Sydney since his trade from Collingwood, while the Swans have rested a host of stars including Chad Warner, Tom Papley and Jake Lloyd.

Brisbane meanwhile welcomes back Lachie Neale for his first hit-out of 2024 after off-season groin surgery as well as Jarrod Berry, however Deven Robertson remains absent as well as Tom Doedee, Conor McKenna and Will Ashcroft.
