Woldman and Roeland Booij, who is co-owner of the former water treatment plant, say they are ashamed that this happened in the village. “Such an action does not fit anywhere, but certainly not in Westerbork.” They are referring to the former transit camp near Hooghalen, which was called Camp Westerbork.

Woldman suspects that this is not the work of one person. “People have been working on this for a long time,” he thinks. “This must have been done by a group.” He doesn’t dare say who is behind it. “We shouldn’t speculate, but a report has been filed.”

The shocked Woldman hopes that people will start talking to each other as a result. “Certainly parents with growing youth.”

According to Woldman, Roeland Booij requested the municipality this morning to paint over the place. “The painter has to be there quickly, because this all has to go. I also trust that this will happen quickly.”

The municipality of Midden-Drenthe says it experiences the same feelings as Woldman. “We strongly support this statement.”
