Crans-Montana bar Fire: Investigation Widens, Former Safety Official to be Questioned
The investigation into the new Year’s Day fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, which killed 40 people and injured 116, is expanding to include scrutiny of local authorities. A former municipal official responsible for fire safety checks is scheduled to be questioned on february 9th, according to reports from RTS.
Third Person Charged in Connection with the Tragedy
This individual will be the third person questioned in the case, following the bar’s owners, Jacques and Jessica Moretti. The investigation is now focusing on whether adequate safety inspections were conducted prior to the fire. Local authorities revealed on January 6th that no annual safety check had been carried out at the bar since 2019, sparking public outrage.
Cause of the Fire
Investigators believe the fire was started when patrons ignited sparklers attached to champagne bottles, bringing them too close to flammable sound insulation foam in the bar
