Afghan authorities, now controlled by the Taliban, announced plans to publicly execute two people sentenced to death for crimes that were not disclosed to the public. The public executions will be the third and fourth carried out since the Taliban returned to power.
As reported AFPThursday (22/2/2024), the Ghazni Province Department of Information and Culture said in a public notification on Thursday (22/2) local time that the death execution was a qisas punishment.
However, there was no further explanation regarding detailed information about the prisoners who would be executed or their crimes.

It only stated that the two men would be publicly executed in a football stadium in eastern Afghanistan.
Although public executions were commonplace during the first Taliban government in 1996-2001, so far only two public executions have been carried out by the Taliban since returning to power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
Both executions were related to the crime of murder.
