Downtown Batavia to Glow wiht “The showgirl Lantern Walk” – A Community celebration & Taylor Swift Tribute
Batavia, NY is set to sparkle this [DateofEvent-[DateofEvent-[DateofEvent-[DateofEvent-insert date here]with the return of the Lantern Walk, a beloved community event now infused with a touch of “Swiftie” magic. This year’s theme, “The Showgirl Lantern Walk,” cleverly coincides with the release of Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated new album, the Tortured Poets Department, promising an evening of music, shopping, adn downtown exploration.
But this isn’t just a fan event; it’s a testament to Batavia’s thriving local buisness scene and a collaborative spirit that’s making downtown a destination. Let’s dive into what makes this event special and how it benefits the entire community.
A Merchant-Led Initiative with MainStreet Support
The Lantern Walk isn’t a direct Batavia MainStreet event, but rather a beautifully supported and promoted initiative spearheaded by local entrepreneurs. This model is a key part of Batavia MainStreet’s strategy: empowering merchants to lead events while providing crucial funding and promotional assistance.
As Desler, Assistant Director of Batavia MainStreet, explains, “We encourage merchants to collaborate and host these events, taking some of the workload off our shoulders. We then provide funding to boost promotion, creating a truly collaborative effort.” This approach fosters ownership and innovation within the business community.
The Vision Behind the Lanterns: Bringing Batavia Together
The driving force behind the Lantern Walk is Brittany Sabatino, owner of arlo.Hendrix, a charming children’s and baby boutique. This is her second year organizing the event, fueled by a desire to create a memorable experience for Batavia residents.
“For me, the foundation of my business has always been about bringing the community together,” Sabatino shares. “This year, with Taylor Swift’s new album release, we thought, why not add a little extra fun and create something for everyone?”
Sabatino partnered with Seapeak Style, a women’s clothing boutique located alongside Arlo.Hendrix within the Wilson Street Mercantile, recognizing the need for an extra hand in planning and execution. The Mercantile, housing four boutiques under one roof at 222 E. Wilson St., is becoming a hub for collaborative retail experiences.
