The Cybertruck is currently delivered without its characteristic, aerodynamic wheel covers. The reason: The shape and tight fit of the wheel covers lead to abnormal wear and tear on the tire sidewalls.

    An attempt to increase reach

Cybertruck’s unconventional wheel covers serve a dual purpose: styling and efficiency. Like other aerodynamic covers, they provide reduced air resistance.

But in this case, form compromised function. As the tires bend and bulge while driving, they touch the tire side surface with their protruding rubber lip. This causes the sidewall to gradually wear out – some owners have already reported damage in forums after a few thousand kilometers.

Tesla advises customers to remove the covers until an improved version is available, which could take until March 2024.

    Teething problems accompany the vehicle

The breakdown is the latest after the vehicle’s bumpy start. Gaps in the paneling, broken down vehicles and other problems plagued the first examples.

The angular stainless steel body achieves an air resistance coefficient of 0.335. The Tesla Cybertruck has 20-inch rims. The vehicle is 5,682 mm long and 1,790 mm high. With the mirrors unfolded it is 2,413 mm wide. The curb weight is given as 3,104 kg.
