The Texas Tech Red Raiders are gearing up for the 2023-24 collage basketball season with high expectations. Coming off an impressive Elite Eight appearance as a No. 3 seed last spring, the program is looking to build on that success with a talented roster and a focused coaching staff. The most important addition is arguably LeJuan Watts, a versatile wing player with a proven track record. Watts excelled at both Eastern Washington and Washington State, averaging 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting 42.2% from beyond the arc at washington State.
McCasland emphasizes Watts’ impact extends beyond statistics. “Being around LeJuan Watts, his passion for this, his feel for the game… being around him and seeing how much he really wants to be great every day,” McCasland shared. “He doesn’t just love it; he lives it every day.”

* Tyeree Bryan: A sharpshooter who connected on 42.9% of his three-point attempts at Santa Clara, averaging 10.4 points per game.
Big 12 Contenders & Defensive Focus
Texas Tech isn’t flying under the radar. The Red Raiders were picked third in the Big 12 preseason coaches’ poll and second by the media, signaling their status as a legitimate threat. However, they face a challenging conference landscape, headlined by defending champion Houston.
McCasland acknowledges the need to elevate their defensive performance. “I think we’ve just put together the right mix of offensive players… our biggest areas (to improve) is just how much better can we get defensively,” he stated. “I just know we’ve got to improve on the defensive side of the ball significantly if we’re going to get were we want to get.”
The program has consistently achieved success under McCasland, winning 23 and 28 games in his first two seasons. But complacency isn’t an option.
scouting the Opponent: Lindenwood University
Tuesday’s opponent, Lindenwood University, is still establishing itself in division I. The Lions are entering their third season at the Division I level and achieved a program-best 16-17 record last year, finishing 10-10 in the Ohio Valley conference.
* They were projected to finish tied for fifth in the OVC preseason poll.
* Lindenwood recently challenged Southern Illinois in an exhibition game, falling 86-76 despite a strong performance led by transfer center Milos Nenadic, who scored 21 points.
