Organized since 2020 by the National Video Games Union with the support of the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images, the video game Pegasus ceremony this year rewarded the best productions in France. A few prizes still reward the best foreign video game (the dantesque Baldur’s Gate 3 from the Belgians of Larian Studios), the best foreign independent video game (Cocoon, the latest baby from Jeppe Carlsen, already father of Limbo and Inside) as well as the best foreign mobile video game (the port of the horrific Little Nightmares by Tarsier studios).
Present, the Minister of Culture Rachida Dati recalled the government’s desire to encourage “French excellence” in the field by supporting industry as well as training. If we found productions from major French studios in competition, independent production was also very well represented in this event which, unlike the Game Awards, leaves the floor to its speakers and the winners. Note that 90% of the French games nominated in this competition are games supported by the video game aid fund or by the CNC tax credit.
This year, Occitanie is in the spotlight since it is the very original “Chants of Sennaar” from the Toulouse studio Rundisc Studio, which was awarded the prize for best game of the year (in addition to that of best indie game). A real booster for this company having seen the light of day in 2016. Let us also point out that the excellent “En Garde” from Montpellier from Fireplace Games, of which we offered you a focus a few months ago in this section, won the prize for best first video game. The Ubisoft Montpellier game “Unknown Soldiers: Brothers in Arms” also won several awards.
