Boom by permanent contracts in Italy: 8 out of 10 employees have a permanent job. This is what we read in a note from Cgia, the Italian General Confederation of Crafts. The current one, therefore, despite what they continue to say on the left, is a particularly positive moment for our job market. And not only for the historical record of employed people but also and above all for the increase in the number of those with a permanent employment contract and for the increase, especially in the last year, of staff with high qualification levels.
In 2023 – continues the CGIA – the number of employed people in Italy reached i 23.6 million units, 471 thousand more than in the pre-Covid period, of which 213 thousand affected the South which was the geographical distribution that recorded the highest percentage increase in the country (+3.5 percent). And it doesn’t end here, because according to forecasts, the overall stock of employed people is destined to grow further also in the coming months, reaching 24 million employees by 2025.

The CGIA, again with reference to last year, also noted an 84 percent incidence of those who have a permanent employment contract (15.57 million out of 18.54 million) on the total number of employees. While the number of highly qualified workers, the note continues, increased in the last year by 5.8 percent (+464 thousand), equal to 96.5 percent of the new jobs created in 2023. Compared to 2019 the change still remains positive (+2.3 percent), but more contained compared to the previous year (+192 thousand) with an impact of 40.7 percent on the new jobs created in the last four years.
