The secret to beating stress may be as simple as getting outside, an expert says.

Endorphins are chemicals released by the body in response to pain or stress, and they are also released during activities such as spending time in nature, exercising, having sex, laughing, meditating and eating chocolate, according to Harvard Health.

Wiens, “Burnout Immunity: How Emotional Intelligence Can Help You Build Resilience and Improve Your Relationship with Work.” In his book, he explained that the stress-reducing effects of being in nature appear in as little as 10 minutes.

Whether it’s visiting a city park or hiking in the woods, spending time outdoors can support your mental health.

“There is growing evidence from dozens of studies that nature benefits human health, both physical and psychological,” says Lisa Nisbet, a psychologist at Trent University in Ontario, Canada, who studies nature connectedness.

“You can lift your mood by walking in nature, even city nature. “And the sense of connection you get with the natural world seems to contribute to happiness even when you’re not physically immersed in nature,” he said.

Another study conducted in 2023 found that even a simple act like watching nature videos can reduce stress.
