The German police arrested the 65-year-old woman from Eschweiler who barricaded herself in the Aachen hospital and threatened the staff with a gun filled with blanks, the police said on Tuesday.
The woman was shot by the police and seriously wounded, but no one else was injured during the Monday night raid.
“Since the woman did not respond to repeated calls, the police ended the dangerous situation with firearms,” the authorities said in a statement.
The 65-year-old woman entered the health facility late in the afternoon, where they later noticed smoke. The authorities have not yet been able to say what caused the fire, which was extinguished later in the evening. It was later discovered that the attacker had previously set fire to his own apartment, which was completely burnt down.
