The filling rate of Morocco’s dams has reached 31.79% as of today, April 3, 2024, with a volume of reservoirs of more than 5.124 billion cubic meters (m3), according to the daily situation of dams in the Kingdom established by the Ministry of Equipment and Water.

This retention represents an evolution compared to the rate of 23.2% recorded at the end of January, the result of the significant rainfall which fell on several regions of the Kingdom in February and March. This rate remains, however, below that established on the same date in 2023, which was 34.53%, with a volume of reservoirs of 5.576 billion cubic meters.

Five dams have a filling rate of 100%. These are the Nakhla, Chefchaouen, Acharif Al Idrissi, Oued Za, Bouhouda dams, knowing that their capacity does not exceed 300 million m3, according to the same source.

Several dams showed filling rates above 50%, namely, Tanger-Med (83%), Smir (90.2%), Moulay El Hassan Ben Al Mahdi (67.7%), Mechraa Hammadi (57, 6%) Al Wahda (56.3%) and Sidi Driss (98.9%).

This is also the case for the Sidi Chahed dams (50.6%), Bab Louta (53.7%), Michlifen (57.3%), Timinoutine (79.1%), Sidi Mohamed Ben Slimane El Jazouli ( 72.4%), as well as the Yacoub El Mansour, Abou Abbass Sebti and Sidi Saïd Maâchou dams whose filling rates were respectively 86.9%, 78% and 76.7%.

As for the large dams whose storage capacity each exceeds 500 million m3, Al Wahda, the largest in Morocco, displays 56.3%, Wed al Makhazin is 92% full, Driss Premier at 25.1 %, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah at 28%, while Al Massira (2nd largest in Morocco), does not exceed 2%, Ahmed Honssali 5.4% and Bin El Ouidan 8.8%.

By basin, the filling rate amounts to 58.96% in Loukkos, 20.88% in Moulouya, 52.19% in Sebou, 28.27% in Bouregreg-Chaouia, 11.09% in Oum Er Rbia, 61.97% in Tensift, 21.23% in Souss-Massa, 35.14% in Draa-Oued Noun and 16.68% in Guir Ziz Rheris.
