“I am very appreciative that the TOP 09 presidency recommended me for the position of minister for science, research and innovation, and I take it as an appreciation of my work so far,” MP and chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee Marek Ženíšek told Novinkám on Tuesday after the meeting of the party’s presidency.

Ženíšek has been a member of TOP 09 since 2009, while he was vice-chairman of the party until 2019, from 2015 to 2017 he held the position of first vice-chairman.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the Presidium chose from among several candidates for the position of Minister of Science, and Ženíšek came out the best in the end. The final decision will be made by the TOP 09 executive committee on Thursday.

Even before the meeting of the presidency, however, there were positive responses to Ženíšek. “I believe he would perform the function well. He is an experienced politician, an academic, he has experience, so I am not worried,” said, for example, party vice-chairman and senator Tomáš Czernin.

TOP 09 is looking for a candidate for the position it announced less than two weeks ago resignation Minister Helena Langšádlová (TOP 09), who was criticized for insufficiently selling her work to the public, for the second time.
