Sharon Johnson from Utah (USA) mentions in a video what she does to make family life easier. She talks about the many rules that apply at home. For example, children only get a mobile phone when they turn twelve. Each child is required to complete two chosen chores daily throughout the year.

None of them are allowed to attend or host pajama parties. She also pays money to her older children if they look after the younger ones. And her rule, which received the most response and caused debate, is that children use the bath and shower two days a week: Wednesday and Sunday.

“If they need to bathe in between, that’s fine, but otherwise, that’s enough,” Sharon assured her.

The post has received over ten million views and thousands of comments. True, in many of them one and the same question is repeated – how can you bathe children so rarely?

“If someone told me I could only swim two days a week…”

“How often are they allowed to brush their teeth?” Once a week?’

“I can’t imagine how I could use a shower only twice a week during the summer months.”

Such and similar comments poured in from many commentators.

The mother soon shared her answer: “We live in an incredibly dry climate and all my children have extremely sensitive skin,” she says. “If they shower poorly every day, their skin will become rough.”

She also noted the American Academy of Dermatology’s recommendations for children’s bathing.

Children aged 6-11 can swim daily if they wish. If not, you should bathe once or twice a week. Of course, bathing should be more frequent if the child gets dirty while playing, visiting the pool, or has body odor.

When puberty begins, it is recommended to bathe daily.

The American Pediatric Society also does not recommend bathing a baby more than three times a week in the first year of a baby’s life. According to them, 2-3 visits to the shower or bath per week are also enough for 1-3 year old children.

So, it turns out that mother did not stray far from the recommendations when creating the rules.
