According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Mustafa, who was appointed as the Prime Minister of Palestine, took the oath in the presence of Abbas.

Abbas, who chaired the government’s first council of ministers meeting, noted that the duties of the new government include the occupied West Bank, as well as east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, and that it has full authority to fulfill its duties within the framework of the law.

Abbas stated that the government aims to carry out broad institutional reforms and provide good services to all Palestinians. “We will seek to maximize humanitarian aid efforts in the Gaza Strip, rebuild Gaza and the West Bank, and revitalize the Palestinian economy.” said. Noting that they continue to work with Arab and international parties to stop the attacks on Gaza and the attacks of Israel and settlers in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, Abbas said, “Our political goal is to achieve freedom, independence and get rid of occupation. “We will also work with relevant Arab and international parties to ensure that the State of Palestine becomes a full member of the United Nations.” he said.

Abbas stated that they will continue to work to unite Palestinian lands and achieve national reconciliation, and said that the new government should prepare to hold general and presidential elections in all regions of Palestine, especially in occupied East Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority had announced that general elections would be held in 2021, but the elections were canceled on the grounds that Israel did not allow elections to be held in occupied East Jerusalem.

The last general elections in Palestine were held in 2006. Following the humanitarian disaster caused by Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtiyye announced that he resigned from his post, which he had held since 2019, on February 26.

Palestinian President Abbas appointed Palestinian National Fund Director Mohammed Mustafa to form the new government on March 14. Prime Minister Mustafa presented his new cabinet to Abbas on March 28, and Abbas gave a vote of confidence to the government with a presidential decree.
