In response to an oral question from the Democratic and Social Constitutional Group in the House of Representatives, on ways to reduce the rate of road accidents in Morocco, Abdeljalil stressed that the increase in road accidents is a “thorny problem” , specifying that to deal with this, the “Safe Motorcycles” program was implemented, currently being implemented in conjunction with the various sectors concerned.

This program, specified the minister, includes the distribution of 50,000 protective helmets, the implementation of an awareness and communication plan for the benefit of motorcyclists, and the strengthening of road control, reinforced by “the strengthening of action of the mobile units of the National Security, the preparation of the activation of the control of motorcycles by means of fixed radars, and the improvement of the control of distributors and sellers of motorcycles”.

Furthermore, Abdeljalil indicated that his department is currently working on “the evaluation of the first five-year action plan 2017-2021 and the preparation of a new plan for the period 2024-2030, in accordance with the objectives of the UN to reduce the number of deaths by traffic accidents by 50% by 2030”, noting that the statistics of victims of traffic accidents at the national level in recent years have noted a stability in the number of deaths compared to 2015, the reference year for the National Road Safety Strategy.
