The passions of Pinto da Costa They are often the subject of jokes due to the intensity with which the Porto president has always given himself to love. At 86 years of age, the Porto leader is not afraid of starting his romantic life again and proof of this is the fact that, just last year, he married for the fifth time, now with Cláudia Campo, the banker who accompanies him in his last term at FC Porto.

Part of Pinto da Costa’s intimate life is Manuela Carmonamother of the first son, Alexandre, Filomena MoraisJoana’s mother and whom he married twice, and also the Brazilian businesswoman Fernanda Miranda. But these are just the women with whom the president of the Dragons married, as the list of conquests and relationships is long.

Among Pinto da Costa’s various loves, there is one that goes down in history due to its intensity and also the fact that it ended in controversy, which was his romance with Carolina Salgado.

The two met at the alterna bar O Calor da Noite and the way they fell in love would end up being reported by Carolina in the book she wrote after the separation, and which gave rise to the ‘Apito Dourado’ process.

“I was dancing on the floor to a song by my Sting when I realized that Mr. Reinaldo Teles had just entered, accompanied by the president of FC Porto, Pinto da Costa. My legs started to shake, I felt a cold in my stomach and I had to leaving the dance floor. I was happy, but at the same time shocked that such an illustrious figure frequented a house of that nature.”, reports Carolina, adding that the first contact took place that same night. “He asked me what I was doing there and was quick to say that it was a job like any other and that I was a great woman. As time went by, he started coming to the bar every night. And I realized for me every night waiting for him to arrive”, he says in the book.

The first meetings took place in the alterna bar under the watchful eye of their colleagues, who were not surprised that, one night, they came across the two dancing together on the dance floor. “One night he invited me to dance. Our hands were sweating, our legs were shaking. I predicted that a great love was being born and I wasn’t wrong. We danced three songs in a row and the feeling was that it was just us, there was no one around. It made me feel like a real princess”.

It happened at the beginning of the new millennium, when Pinto da Costa was married to Filomena. Later, the relationship would end to begin the passion for Salgado, which would last six years. But the intense way it began was repeated at the end of the relationship. At that time, Pinto da Costa’s distrust of Carolina increased, and the Porto leader moved towards separation.

“Have you thought about what you want? You have a house and whenever I can I’ll come and meet you there”, he suggested to Carolina who, as he stated, refused to be the “president’s number one lover”. And that’s when the war between the two broke out.

Carolina took the first step by going to a BES branch to withdraw 30 thousand euros from a joint account with Pinto da Costa. There are several versions of what happened next. She says he emptied her house and that same afternoon he attacked her.

“The 6th of April 2006 was the saddest day of my life. I was returning home when I saw a huge van parked outside my house that I recognized as belonging to FCP’s SAD. I parked the car and saw Afonso, Jorge Nuno’s driver, with a giant roll of wrapping paper on his shoulders. I asked for an explanation, he didn’t give it and he brutally pushed me away. I was ransacking my house at the behest of Jorge Nuno, who was there as if he were a tourist and had nothing to do with the matter. Seeing me handcuffed by her henchman, she slapped me twice. They took what they wanted and left me and my sister in a deplorable statel”, she says in her book, while Pinto da Costa accuses her of precisely the opposite.

According to the president of the dragons, the story is very different and it was Carolina who emptied the house worth no less than 300 thousand euros. To know: he took 12 bottles of wine from 1937, specially bottled for Pinto da Costa, worth 7500 euros; a cabinet with 50 pieces of Chinese crockery (70 thousand euros), cupboards, chests, a collection of books, a painting by Noronha da Costain addition to household appliances and figurines (105 thousand euros), several watches, some collector’s items, worth 30,500 euros, 50 gold fountain pens, valued at 50 thousand euros, tableware services, suits, ties and branded coats , for a total of 10 thousand euros, a painting by Cargaleiro (10 thousand euros), as well as a plate, a suit, a tie and an FCP helmet that the defendant allegedly offered to an old boyfriend, Paulo Lemos.

BETRAYAL NEVER FORGIVEN

Since then, Pinto da Costa has remarried, had several partners, started and ended relationships, but no ex-wife would ever ‘go through’ with him like Carolina.

“No one faced him like Carolina. It was a scandal”, recalls a source, adding that, after the end of the relationship, Pinto da Costa always adopted the same ‘modus operandi’: proposing agreements and pampering his ex-partners to avoid public complications. . “Carolina was the only one who refused. There are many ex-comrades that Pinto da Costa continues to help financially. It’s a pet hate.”

Perhaps that’s why Carolina is different for the Porto president who, at a time when he finishes his career at the head of the dragons, leaves peace made with practically all of his former teammates with the exception of Carolina.

In a major interview he gave to ‘Expresso’ several years ago, the blue and white president agreed to talk about the way he managed his relationship with his ex-partners, but made a reservation regarding Carolina. “I separated but I continue to get along with my ex-wife (Manuela Carmona). There are many people who don’t separate because they don’t want to give up, but we have the right to be happy and when there is no love it’s better that way. She got sick and I accompanied her, I knew everything. I don’t want her bad, I only want her well”, he revealed, but when asked if he was capable of saying the same about Carolina Salgado, the Porto player ‘exploded’.“I can’t even accept the comparison. I have so much respect for my son’s mother that I can’t respond.”

Regarding the intense way he lived his relationships, Pinto da Costa had no doubts when he stated that he always married for love. “When a person gets married it is with the expectation that it will work. But in more than 50% of cases it does not work. Half of marriages end in divorce and the other half that don’t end, many are fake and live with other people. I assume my actions.”

Despite the controversy surrounding the relationship with Carolina Salgado, time took care of mitigating the rivalries. However, the moment she said goodbye to the Dragon, the former businesswoman ended up celebrating her little revenge with a text published on social media.

Congratulations to all the members who finally understood what it means to manage FC Porto out of love for the club and not those who managed to raise money for their own benefit, not looking at means (where the only virtue was not to be discovered) to achieve goals.”
