for 10 billion zlotys, i.e. approx. The Polish government is buying American air defense systems for HUF 913 billion, wrote Notes From Poland. Such advanced air defense systems currently only protect the United States, Poland will be the first country to use them outside the USA.

Air defense systems called the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) will be delivered between 2024 and 2031.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, standing next to the American ambassador at the press conference about the purchase, said that the Poles will receive a very important part of their air defense, “this is the brain of the whole system,” he said, adding that “Poland’s airspace will be safe.”

According to the minister, in the Russo-Ukrainian war, everyone can see exactly how cardinally important a country’s air defense is, which is why they decided in favor of the expensive purchase, which is beyond the already expensive standards of Polish military procurement.

The previous Polish government spent 4 percent of GDP on the military, the largest share in NATO outside the United States – but the new cabinet led by Donald Tusk is expected to surpass even that.
