Ebba Busch thinks screen time is “drug for children’s brains”.

That was the message in the party leader’s fiery speech during KD’s party days on Friday. Earlier that day, Busch wrote on DN Debatt, together with party colleagues Jakob Forssmed and Alice Teodorescu Måwe, that KD wants to see tougher requirements and strengthened control for social media at the EU level.

The play sparked several discussions among party leaders at X.

One started with a Friday reflection from Muharrem Demirok (C). He questions whether it is reasonable for the state or the EU to control how his three children use social media.

“I also get frustrated when they look at the phone all evening, but I don’t want the state to take over our parenting”, skriver Demirok.

Jakob Forssmed (KD) quickly countered with a thought of his own. He wonders if it is unreasonable to try to support the parents instead of leaving them alone in the “fight against the algorithms and design of the apps”.

Forssmed asks Demirok: Have you even read our proposals?”.

“I share your concern, but not the conclusion”, answers the C leader.

“Do you know?”

Another who reacted was MEP Arba Kokalari (M). She notes that three of the four proposals launched by KD have already been legislated in the EU.

“Don’t you know what you already voted for?” she asks.

Ebba Busch then responded with an invitation to read through KD’s entire play, to which Kokalari replied that she had already done so. She also writes that she was involved in negotiating the EU’s digital law, where she believes that the proposals are included.
