The US Secretary of State has already negotiated with China and India over Russian nuclear weapons

Although American intelligence does not clearly state that Moscow is capable of sending a nuclear weapon into space, Foreign Minister Antony Blinken asked China and India to try to dissuade Russia from such a plan, reports The New York Times. This week, the leadership of the United States received worrying news about Russian armaments: it was suggested that the Russians are developing a nuclear weapon system that can be used against satellites. And this could endanger the thousands of satellites that connect the world.

Foreign Minister Antony Blinken raised the possibility of a Russian nuclear move to his Chinese and Indian colleagues at the Munich security conferences on Friday and Saturday.

Any nuclear detonation in space would destroy the satellites. Global communication systems would collapse, and everything from emergency services to cell phones would fail. So these weapons would not be directly dangerous to humans.

Even if Russia did send a nuclear weapon into space, U.S. officials say they would not detonate it. Instead, they would use it as a ticking time bomb, for example to allow them to move if too harsh sanctions are imposed on them in the Russo-Ukraine war.

In any case, if Russia were to send a nuclear weapon into space, it would violate the 1967 Outer Space Treaty on the prohibition of sending weapons of mass destruction into outer space.

On Thursday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov denied the American reports, calling them a “malicious fabrication”. According to Ryabkov, they only want to get American representatives to vote for more money to weaken Russia.
