The R1 costs $199 and can be ordered in Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Canada, Japan, UK, US and South Korea. The first copies will be delivered to customers this month.

A few concepts for app-free devices were also shown during the MWC tech fair in Barcelona at the end of February. Deutsche Telekom showed an Android phone that generates an interface when you talk to it. This is done on the basis of generative AI models from the company Brain Technologies. According to the makers, this smartphone can imitate 4 million different functions of apps, but if you want, you can also just use apps. It is not yet known what the device will be called or when it will be on the market.

A Phone, A Friend

The smartphone from the start-up A Phone, A Friend was also presented during MWC. The company’s goal is to develop a smartphone that becomes a personal assistant rather than a traditional smartphone. The smartphone will have an e-ink screen, but should mainly be used as a voice assistant. The company has only just been founded and does not yet have a working prototype. This device will still have access to apps, but the idea is that you will use them less. No release date or price has yet been announced for the smartphone from A Phone, A Friend.
