A statement was published on the official Twitter account of Hacettepe University about a group that defines themselves as ‘Hacettepe University Organization (HÜT)’. In the statement, it was stated that HÜT was not the official student community of the university, and some of the actions the group was involved in were shared. These actions included attacks with machetes and beatings of other students at the school.

In the statement made on the university’s official social media accounts, it was stated that the group calling themselves ‘Hacettepe University Organization, HÜT’ had been involved in many incidents at the school for 3 years and “engaged in actions that would negatively affect educational activities and peace.”

The full text of the statement of the Hacettepe University administration, stating that this group attacked many students at different times and threatened security guards with ski masks, is as follows:

“HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

For a while, there have been some posts on social media aimed at defaming our University and the people working within the university. For this reason, there was a need to make a statement in order to correctly inform people and the public who do not know enough about the subject and are misled.
Within the framework of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and other relevant legislation, the rules that students must comply with, disciplinary offenses, administrative procedures to be carried out and sanctions to be applied are stipulated. On the other hand, there are 148 student societies focused on different subjects and fields within our University, Hacettepe University Health, Culture and Sports Department Student Societies Establishment and Operation Directive. [https://hacettepe.edu.tr/duyuru/yonergeler/SKSOgrenciTopluluklariYonergesi.pdf] carries out its activities in accordance with its provisions. According to the said Directive; Student groups are required to obtain permission from the university for their activities.
‘Hacettepe University Organization’ mentioned on social media. HÜT is not an officially established and active student community. The students in this group are; They have participated in various events for nearly 3 years and have taken actions that would negatively affect the educational activities and peace within the university.

Among these actions;

-On 22.03.2022, the HÜT group in question intervened in a group of students celebrating Nevruz without permission, and one of them attacked the students in the opposite group with a machete knife approximately 40 cm long,

– On 28.03.2022, 5 students in this group came together and beat another student,

– On 13.12.2023, 4 students in this group came together and beat another student,

– On 27.02.2024, at 23:50 at night, 2 people in the same group were arrested 12 times, with their faces covered with balaclavas, for hanging political content unauthorized posters, banners and labels on traffic signs, bus stops and building doors, and for collecting the documents in question by security personnel. Gathering in a group of people and threatening security personnel,
-On 30.04.2024, during the March against US and Israeli Oppression, which different student groups came together and organized with permission from the university administration, an attitude was aimed at sabotaging the event and a student in the said group shouted “Down with Palestine” and provoked the students participating in the march. shouting slogans,

Unauthorized demonstrations, hanging banners and chanting slogans on various dates are included. The attitudes and behaviors listed above constitute a crime in terms of higher education legislation. In addition, some of them may constitute crimes in terms of criminal law. Hacettepe University and its current officials are authorized and responsible to take the necessary measures against such acts within the framework of their authority and responsibilities.

Our university administration’s adherence to the constitution and laws, and its national and spiritual sensitivities can be clearly seen by examining past activities, academic and social events, personal stances and posts. The goal to be achieved by sharing posts on social media from anonymous accounts; It is considered that the aim is to suppress and passivize the practices of our University and its employees based on the principle of equality before the constitution and laws, by distorting the events that took place. As in the past, no tolerance will be shown to any person or group who tries to disrupt the peaceful environment of our University, and necessary administrative and legal procedures will continue to be taken against people who engage in criminal attitudes and behaviors. It is announced to the public with respect.”
