The Russian authorities on Friday told the mother of Alexei Navalny, who died in prison, that they will bury her son on the grounds of the prison unless she agrees within three hours to lay him to rest in a private funeral, Kira Jarmis, the spokesman for the late Russian opposition leader, told X -I.

The Russian opposition politician died last week Friday, at the age of 47, in the Arctic prison in the Yamal-Nenyets Autonomous Region, where he served his 19-year sentence. The news of his death caused an international outcry, many countries asked for the local Russian ambassador.

Alexei Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, who is at the scene, has been demanding for days the release of her son’s body so that he can be buried with dignity among his friends, family and supporters.

According to Kira Jarmis, an investigator called the 69-year-old woman during the day and gave her an ultimatum: either she agrees to a secret funeral within three hours, with the exclusion of the public, or her son will be buried on the grounds of the prison, the spokesperson wrote on X.

According to Jarmis, Lyudmila Navalnaya refused the ultimatum and continues to demand the release of her son’s body.

The Russian authorities have not yet commented on the matter.
