The Huawei brand presented several new products today at a press conference in Dubai, where our editors were also invited: notebooks MateBook X Pro, MateBook 14, MatePad 11 tablet as well as new watches and headphones. We will focus on the interesting watch Huawei Watch Fit 3, which I had the opportunity to try. We will bring their detailed review on May 22, when the embargo ends.

Cheap Apple Watch?

In terms of design, expectations were confirmed in the form of a strong inspiration from Apple’s Apple Watch. The watch has a square dial with a 1.82″ display with a resolution of 480 × 480 pixels. The brightness reaches up to 1500 nits. Unlike Apple, Huawei preferred a square floor plan for the Watch Fit 3 model. The watch case is aluminum and 4 colors are to be available: black, white, gold, pink.

We got our hands on the silver model, which is complemented by a red crown in the upper right corner, and below it there is another button that activates the selection of sports activities. The strap is fabric with a Velcro fastener. The end of the strap is decorated with the manufacturer’s logo on a red background that matches the crown. In addition to the textile strap, rubber or leather variants should also be available.

The straps can of course be changed, the mechanism is similar to Apple’s, with the only difference being that after pressing the fuse on the back, you pull the strap towards you and not to the side. Also, the dimensions of 36.3 x 43.2 x 9.9 mm and the weight of 26 grams correspond to the competing Apple Watch in the 41 mm variant.

Watch hardware

Watch Fit 3 has a water resistance certification up to 5 ATM pressure, and other specifications include memory with a not too impressive capacity of 4 GB or Bluetooth 5.2 used to connect to a smartphone. Android 8 and newer but also iOS 13 and newer are supported. There is also a GPS, speaker or microphone for phone calls.

The red crown attracts attention

In terms of sensors, there is a classic here for heart rate measurement or blood oxygenation measurement. The battery with a capacity of 400 mAh is supposed to provide up to 10 days of endurance, and recharging takes place using a 2-pin adapter, the connection of which is not as elegant as the magnetic wireless charging of Apple watches. But a full charge takes place in one hour and 8 minutes. However, Huawei refers to 10 days as the maximum endurance. With intensive use, we should be talking about a total of 7 days.

And what are the first impressions after a few hours of use? The watch feels quite pleasant on the wrist and the strap and case do not restrict me in any way. The aluminum case fits nicely with the display and buttons, and the overall impression of the quality of processing is decent. The crown has a bit more resistance when pressed than I’m used to with the Apple Watch, but it might squeeze out a bit over time. Movement in the system is very fluid. I have not registered any stuttering or other problems, the software runs without any major problems.

Unfortunately, the inspiration of the company from Cupertino can also be seen in the individual applications. The new user interface also looks relatively fresh, but the inspiration is clear here again and it is a great pity that Huawei did not go its own way in this direction.

In the Huawei Health application, you can monitor the results of measuring your values ​​during the day, individual sports results, but there is also the option of changing the watch face, of which there are many available.
