A grandfather in New Jersey, United States revealed the secret of his longevity so he can remain active even though he is 110 years old. He is Vincent Dransfield who is currently the eighth oldest man in the world who still drives his own car.
Quoted from Insiderhere are some of Vincent’s secrets for longevity that you might be able to apply in everyday life:
1. Drink Milk Every Day
Vincent started working on a dairy farm when he was 15 years old. He delivered milk for five years.
“I drank milk and ate well because I worked on the farm. I often look back and think that it gave me a good start in life for my bones,” said Vincent.
2. Stop smoking and rarely drink alcohol
Drinking alcohol and smoking have long been considered to have a bad impact on longevity. Although he occasionally drinks beer, he does not enjoy or drink other alcohol very often.
“He only started smoking when he was 50 years old after a friend offered it to him. However, after 20 years he threw away his cigarettes and stopped,” said Vincent’s granddaughter, Erica Lista.
3. Have a purpose in life
The risk of retirement is a more rapid early decline and longevity is associated with the enjoyment of learning new things and challenging oneself. Vincent loved working and he did so for 60 years as an auto parts manager.
In his 70s, he finally decided to retire, also because his wife asked him to.
However, he also volunteered for more than 80 years as a local firefighter. He also served as chairman for some time.
