Mangakahia’s basketball journey began at Syracuse University, where she quickly established herself as a standout player.She earned All-American honors,showcasing exceptional skill and leadership. Despite going undrafted in the 2021 WNBA draft, she briefly joined the Phoenix Mercury for training camp.
Following her time with the Mercury, Mangakahia pursued a professional career internationally, playing in Russia, France, and her native Australia. In 2022, she achieved meaningful recognition in Australia’s NBL1 league, being named to the All-Star five and earning MVP honors for the North division. She also proudly represented the Australian national team, the Opals, at the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, contributing to their bronze medal victory.

In 2023, Mangakahia bravely announced her retirement from basketball after learning her breast cancer had progressed to stage four. Though, her love for the game and her indomitable spirit led to a remarkable return to the court earlier this year in the NBL1. She had even signed with the Tokomanawa Queens in New Zealand, intending to play in the upcoming season, a testament to her unwavering passion. Sadly, she will not be able to fulfill that commitment.
