It doesn’t drag on for weeks,” says Klara,a participant in recent speed dating events. “I once messaged someone for two weeks,and the person I met in person was completely diffrent.”
The structured nature of these events also encourages a level of intentionality frequently enough lacking in online dating. “You have to buy a ticket and prepare yourself. It takes more effort than sitting at home on the couch watching TV and swiping,” Klara adds. “That’s why people tend to take it more seriously.” Several personal connections made through speed dating have even blossomed into short-term relationships,with some holding the promise of something more.

Rather, it’s becoming a stylish option to the overwhelming nature of digital dating. The phenomenon is being fueled by a desire for more genuine interactions and a rejection of the endless scrolling and superficial judgments that characterize many dating apps.
