Toyota Aygo X Hybrid: A Bold Step Forward for the City Car
Toyota is redefining its compact Aygo X with its first-ever hybrid powertrain, borrowed from the Yaris. This new 116-horsepower engine dramatically transforms the character of this city car, adding both power and efficiency.
The change is immediately noticeable: Toyota has significantly upgraded the Aygo X by replacing its modest 1.0-liter, 72-horsepower engine with a 116-horsepower hybrid system. this represents an increase of 44 horsepower – over 60% more power! The numbers speak for themselves. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h now takes under 10 seconds, a significant betterment from the previous near-15-second time.
This new engine addresses a major shortcoming and finally gives the Aygo X respectable highway capabilities. The car is no longer limited to urban driving due to technical constraints and can now confidently handle longer journeys.

The manufacturer claims a 18% reduction in the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint over its lifespan. Engineers cleverly installed the two battery packs side-by-side under the floor, a first for the brand. This ingenious solution avoids compromising interior space, a crucial consideration for a compact model.

No electronic components from the previous version could be retained; everything had to be re-engineered,from the wiring harness to the battery cooling system.This complete overhaul did allow for some welcome secondary improvements,including a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and bi-zone climate control on higher-end trims.
Another important technical detail is the 76mm extension of the front overhang to accommodate the new engine. Toyota assures that maneuverability remains intact thanks to a tight turning radius of 4.7 meters.
