SUHL – On Saturday afternoon, German agents checked a Bulgarian tractor-trailer on the German A71 at the Suhl/Zella-Mehlis junction. Although everything seemed fine at first glance, at least on the truck, the police discovered after reading the tachograph that the 51-year-old Bulgarian driver had massively exceeded his weekly driving times several times.

In total, he had driven more than 23.5 hours too much in the past four weeks.

When the man was interrogated, it turned out that he had not done this voluntarily, but that the transport company had simply demanded it of him. Still, the driver was fined 400 euros, but it did result in a mandatory break until the end of the weekend. He was visibly relieved about that.

His employer can expect a report for violating his duty of supervision and care towards his staff.
