Travis Barker is opening up about his near-fatal plane crash, a severe opioid addiction, and Kourtney Kardashian’s miscarriage in the new Hulu documentary Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear
. Released on August 13, 2026, the project spans nine years of filming and details the Blink-182 drummer’s personal trials and triumphs.
The Blink-182 drummer’s life behind the drum kit has rarely been a quiet one, but a new multi-year documentary project delves into deeply personal territory. Co-directed by Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer, the project brings together archival footage, police records, and interviews with close collaborators to trace the musician’s journey from a working-class childhood in Fontana, California, to global stardom.
Childhood Resentment and Early Musical Beginnings
Before joining Blink-182 in 1998, Barker worked as a garbage collector in Laguna Beach, California. Late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins recalled meeting the young musician during his humble beginnings
when Barker was playing for the punk band Feeble. According to Hawkins, those around Barker recognized his potential early on, believing he was destined to become a star attraction
in his own right.
Barker’s early years were also marked by domestic instability. He opened up about discovering that his father maintained a relationship with another woman before his mother passed away from Sjögren syndrome just before he started high school. There wasn’t that one stable foundation to go to and be like, ‘Yo, this is difficult for me,’
Barker notes in the film, describing the resentment he felt during his youth.
Battling a Severe Opioid Addiction Fueled by Flight Anxiety
A lifelong fear of flying plagued Barker long before a catastrophic aviation accident in September 2008. Bandmate Tom DeLonge explained in the documentary that this intense anxiety pushed the drummer toward prescription medication. What began as an occasional pill provided by a friend quickly escalated into a heavy dependence.

At the peak of his addiction, Barker relied on massive doses of painkillers to function. His ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, shared on camera that Barker admitted to taking between 20 and 30 pills a day, leaving her wondering how he survived. Barker acknowledged that he was taking Oxycodone to the point of feeling like he was melting,
employing a security guard whose sole responsibility was to watch him sleep and ensure he kept breathing.
The 2008 Plane Crash and Survival
Barker sustained third-degree burns across 65 percent of his body, an ordeal that required extensive surgeries and a long physical and psychological recovery.
Family Loss and IVF Struggles With Kourtney Kardashian
The documentary also charts Barker’s relationship with Kourtney Kardashian, highlighting the emotional toll of their family planning journey. The couple began dating in early 2021 and discovered they were expecting a baby six months later, choosing the name Tulip for their daughter. During a routine doctor’s appointment at three months, they learned the fetus had no heartbeat.

“When we lost the baby, we were devastated. We cried for days.”

Following that loss, the couple underwent five rounds of in vitro fertilization over an eight-month period before deciding to halt treatments in May 2023 to try conceiving naturally. Kardashian later announced a subsequent pregnancy during a Blink-182 concert in June 2023 with a sign reading, Travis I’m pregnant.
After navigating an urgent fetal surgery and another pregnancy scare where an ultrasound revealed a loss of heartbeat, the couple ultimately welcomed their son, Rocky, in November 2023.
