polish Nordic Combined Faces an Uncertain Future Despite Coach’s Dedication
The future of Nordic combined skiing in Poland is precarious, with limited resources and support threatening the sport’s continued existence. Despite the challenges, head coach Wojciech Marusarz remains steadfast to foster growth and maintain Poland’s presence in the discipline.
Marusarz highlighted the difficulties in working with a small group of athletes, some of whom are managing health concerns, including diabetes. He also praised the work of junior coach Szczepan Kupczak, noting the potential within the younger athletes.Though, he stressed that significant progress requires time and cannot be rushed.
“We have the material we have, and I believe it’s really okay.I see the potential in these athletes during training. I know they are capable of doing really good things. They are hardworking,” Marusarz stated. He expressed frustration at the lack of domestic support, noting that international teams frequently enough offer more assistance.“It’s a bit sad that even other nations are reaching out to help us at competitions because they see that it’s just me, or just two of us. They support us more, wanting to see Polish athletes involved. Or else, the sport becomes closed off to all but a few strong nations.” https://www.sport.pl/skoki/
marusarz issued a direct appeal to the Polish Ski Association (PZS) for increased support for its coaches. “This is my appeal to the Polish association to really support its coaches, because in a while they may not have any left at all,” he warned.
While current results don’t provide a strong case for promoting Nordic combined within Poland,Marusarz believes a foundation must be laid for future success. The sport currently struggles for visibility compared to Poland’s dominant ski jumping program.
Observers believe Marusarz is uniquely positioned to revitalize Polish Nordic combined, possessing the same determination he demonstrated during his own competitive career.Without his dedication, the sport in Poland may face complete dissolution.
