Trump has already won the first four key elections, and his strong polling performance in recent years appears to give him an insurmountable lead heading into Super Tuesday, 10 days away, when as many as 15 states will vote for a presidential candidate.

Haley had vowed to continue the fight regardless of the outcome, while Trump did not mention her once in his post-victory speech.

“November 5 we’re going to be here and we’re going to look at Joe Biden — we’re going to look him in the eye, he’s destroying our country — and we’re going to say, Joe, you’re fired. Pull,” Trump said at a victory party in the state capital, Columbia, to cheers and applause.

It was not immediately clear by what margin Trump won, but US networks announced the winner seconds after the polls closed, suggesting there was little doubt about the outcome.

Trump has already won the Republican primary in Iowa by 30 points and New Hampshire by 10 points, leaving the Nevada real estate mogul virtually unopposed in his first official election.

The former US president won South Carolina by 20 points against Haley, according to the BBC.

Haley was the popular governor of South Carolina for six years before becoming Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations in 2017.

Mr. Biden responded to the South Carolina election results with a brief statement in which he warned Americans about “Donald Trump’s threat to our future as Americans continue to grapple with the damage he has done.”
