The political landscape in Venezuela remains intensely focused on the future, as opposition leader María Corina Machado is slated to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump this week.
This meeting occurs amid escalating international scrutiny and pressure on Caracas to expedite the release of political prisoners. Washington announced on Monday that the encounter is scheduled, following the recent seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on January 3rd, and the subsequent declaration by the Trump administration that it would assume governance of Venezuela.
Interestingly, despite her prominent role in the opposition, Machado has found herself somewhat sidelined by the current U.S.
