WALL – AK Party Ankara Deputy Tuğrul Türkeş’s criticism of Osman Kavala, who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Gezi case, became a hot topic. In his post on his X account, Türkeş evaluated Kavala’s lawyers’ request for a retrial.

Stating that the Osman Kavala Case put Turkey in a difficult situation in the international arena, Türkeş defended the article written by Hürriyet writer Abdulkadir Selvi in favor of Kavala’s release.

Arguing that people who are not familiar with the Osman Kavala Case expressed their opinions on the issue, Türkeş said, “I don’t even want to think about it, but; “Is the possibility of resolving the issue through domestic law disturbing some circles?” he asked.

Türkeş’s statement and questions on the subject are as follows:

‘I DON’T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT BUT…’

Lawyers of the “Osman Kavala” case, which is an important case of Turkey both internationally and in terms of domestic law, have submitted a petition for the renewal of the trial.

As you know, Osman Kavala has been on trial and been detained for 2 years. The issue was covered in the media.

Many (lawyers) and non-lawyers began to express their opinions against the issue, even though they were not familiar with the case and, most importantly, without seeing the entire petition.

I personally wonder on what basis and what did these people oppose?

A- The fact that Abdulkadir Selvi wrote about the issue?

B- Is it because there is a high probability that Osman Kavala will finally be released?

E- Is it because the fog is clearing from the gray environment they are trying to create?

F- I don’t even want to think about it but; I wonder if the possibility of resolving the issue through domestic law disturbs some circles?
