It was reported that Iranian rap singer Tumac Salihi, who was accused of organizing the protests that started in September 2022 in Iran and continued for about 4 months, was sentenced to death, but his sentence was later commuted to prison by the Supreme Court, and was sentenced to death again.

Speaking to Shark Newspaper published in Iran, Salehi’s lawyer Emir Reisiyan said that the Isfahan Revolutionary Court did not implement the decision of the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Reisiyan said, “The 1st Branch of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court took an unprecedented step, did not implement the verdict of the Supreme Court against Tumaj Salehi, and emphasized the independence of the lower court, accusing Tumaj Salehi of ‘causing mischief on earth’ and corrupting the world.” “He sentenced him to death, which is the punishment,” he said.

Iranian judicial authorities have not yet made a statement on the issue.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Rap singer Salihi participated in the protests and made statements supporting the actions during the demonstrations that started in September 2022 and lasted for about 4 months after Mahsa Emini died in police custody.

Iranian authorities later announced that Salehi was detained while trying to escape the country, and an image of the Iranian singer blindfolded and apologizing for what he said was published in the country’s media. His family and opponents claimed that Salihi was tortured in prison and forced to confess.
