Twice a new Far Cry, assassins and a World War II shooter » Vortex

The traditionally well-informed Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming gathered his insights on the current situation and mood at Ubisoft, which is not very satisfactory. With what’s happening in the gaming industry right now, according to Henderson, the company is at a crossroads and employees have reason to be concerned. There is reportedly tension within the company, morale is at an all-time low, and people are looking ahead to a possible restructuring that would see many of them lose their jobs here, too.

Henderson has interviewed some of the employees on condition of anonymity in recent months, with most of them concerned that the number of layoffs will rise in the foreseeable future. Chasing what’s popular at the moment is also said to be a problem, including attempts at NFT or battle royale titles that gobbled up a lot of funds but ended up being canceled anyway. Developers also feel frustrated due to delays and unrealistically set internal deadlines that cannot be met – this mainly applies to Skull and Bones and Beyond Good & Evil 2 or XDefiant.

The years to come

Henderson has already summarized Ubisoft’s extensive plans for the Assassin’s Creed series in the past, which he now adds with additional information regarding other series and other titles, including a brand new IP. If nothing changes, Ubisoft is expecting two big releases this year – Star Wars Outlaws in the first half of the year, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red in the second, which is now being talked about again. However, we are also looking forward to The Division Heartland, which should hopefully be released this year, and as Henderson states in his article, a total of three extraction shooters should be in development together with it. Next is a multiplayer set in the world of Far Cry called “Project Maverick”, which Henderson exclusively reported last October and which should be released during 2025. This trio is rounded off by a brand new IP set in World War 2, which would it was supposed to come out between 2026 and 2027, unless there are some changes or even cancellation.

Next year, we could expect a new addition to the Ghost Recon series, which is being created under the name “Project Over” and we know about him from 2022, set during the fictional Naiman War. The extraction multiplayer from the Far Cry series should be joined by another full-fledged part in 2026, which is known as “Project Blackbird” for a change. These titles will be complemented by two new titles from the Assassin’s Creed series, namely the already announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe and Invictus, about which we still don’t know much at this point, as well as the Splinter Cell remake, which has been in development for years. However, Henderson also lures other assassins, including the speculated remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. According to Henderson, this has been given the code name “Project Obsidian” and coincidentally, this project has also been rumored again in recent days as being in development.

What the player (hopefully) awaits and will not miss:

– Star Wars Outlaws (first half of 2024)
– Assassin’s Creed Codename Red (second half of 2024)
– The Division Heartland (release date pending)
– “Project Over” / Ghost Recon (2025)
– “Project Blackbird” / Far Cry 7 (2025)
– “Project Maverick” / Far Cry multiplayer (2025)
– Assassin’s Creed Hexe (2026)
– Assassin’s Creed Invictus (2025)
– Splinter Cell Remake (2025–2026)
– new IP / shooter set in WWII (2026-2027)

Although Henderson is a credible source, it should still be kept in mind that this is anecdotal information and that plans and possibly dates may change internally, which would not be anything new or surprising for Ubisoft given the above. It’s not too surprising that Henderson doesn’t make any mention at this point, for example, of the problematic remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which underwent a reboot last year, so it may still be years away. You can recall the future of the Assassin’s Creed series in an older article.
