“We were happy that we were able to work with very talented cohorts this season. Just like the team, the staff formed during the season. From camp to camp, the team crystallized into a very special group that stuck together and… We got better from training to training, from match to match and from shift to shift and were rewarded with the well-deserved bronze medal in the game against Germany. We believed in the girls and they believed in us, that was it “The key to success” was revealed Head Coach Tomas Kala stolz.
“All in all, we had four good games in which all of the players were able to show off and bring a professional attitude to the ice. Winning a medal at this big tournament is a big thing for the U16 team,” also enthused Assistant Coach Erik Vikström after winning the medal.
Slovakia fielded two teams in the tournament organized by the Slovak Federation in cooperation with the IIHF. The U16 European Girls Trophy was aimed primarily at players born between 2008 and 2011, with each team able to field two players born in 2012. In addition to the Slovakian teams, the national teams of Austria, Hungary, Germany, Poland, France and the Czech Republic also took part.
At the start, Austria celebrated a 1-0 win over Slovakia Blue. Hungary lost 4-1 and won 2-0 against Slovakia White. In the decisive duel with Germany, Austria’s women were able to improve again and celebrated a 5:3 success.
