Minister of Agriculture UkraineMykola Solsky, was detained after being officially named a suspect in investigation of alleged corruption millions of American dollars. Solsky has submitted his resignation from his position after being caught in the corruption case.

As reported AFPFriday (26/4/2024), the Kyiv authorities were shrouded corruption scandal severe since the fall of the Soviet Union, has pledged to step up anti-corruption efforts as part of its determination to join the European Union bloc.

In the corruption case involving him, Solsky was accused of illegally confiscating land when he was still the director of a large agricultural company and a member of the Ukrainian parliament. The value of the land is estimated at more than US$ 7 million or the equivalent of Rp. 113.5 billion.

Solsky’s detention was announced by Ukrainian prosecutors in a statement on Friday (26/4) local time.

Ukraine’s anti-corruption court ordered Solsky to be detained until June 24 while its investigation into the case continues.

He was ordered to be detained on bail set by the court at 75.7 million Ukrainian Hryvnia, or the equivalent of IDR 30.9 billion.

Earlier this week, Solsky submitted his resignation from his position as Minister of Agriculture. He also promised to cooperate in the investigation of the case involving him.
