un homenaje a Lula Da Silva encendió la polémica en Brasil a meses de las elecciones

lula da Silva honored in ‍rio Carnival Parade, Sparks Controversy

A parade float at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival⁣ featuring Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has ignited debate, especially due to a pointed message seemingly directed at his political rival, former president Jair Bolsonaro. The float’s slogan, ⁣“No false myths, no amnesty,”⁤ alludes to ‍Bolsonaro, who was convicted of abuse of power and⁣ has seen his allies in Congress attempt to secure an amnesty for ‍his actions related to the january 8th, 2023 attacks on government buildings.

The parade was⁢ presented ⁢by the‍ “Acadêmicos de Niteroi” samba school. While the display prominently featured Lula’s life story, the political undertones drew criticism from Bolsonaro supporters.

Igor Ricardo, the parade’s scriptwriter, defended the float, stating the intention⁤ was not electoral. “Our ⁢intention was not electoral. We chose Lula ⁣as a theme because he is a winning story.Brazilians like the story of people who rise from the bottom and overcome,” Ricardo explained. He⁤ attributed the backlash to “out-of-tune nervousness from the far-right” and reiterated that the school wasn’t campaigning for Lula.

Ricardo further clarified, “We are not asking for votes for Lula. we are simply telling his life story, but we cannot tell his story⁣ without talking about politics.” He also revealed that Lula was moved to tears when informed⁤ of the details of the project and the accompanying samba⁣ composition.

Following “Acadêmicos de Niteroi,” other⁢ prominent samba schools – Mangueira, ⁤Portela, and imperatriz Leopoldinense – were scheduled to perform on Sunday night. The parades of the twelve samba⁤ schools in Rio’s Special Group, continuing through Monday and Tuesday nights, represent the pinnacle of brazil’s Carnival celebrations and are considered the world’s largest outdoor spectacle.
