Brindisi, Italy – A local councilor has brought to light serious issues surrounding the condition of the former Inapli Covered Market in Brindisi, sparking a political and managerial debate.councilor Mario Borromeo, President of the productive Activities Commission, conducted an inspection revealing meaningful concerns regarding safety, hygiene, and the overall management of the municipal property.
The inspection was prompted by numerous reports of the market’s deteriorating state. Borromeo identified critical issues including inadequate cleaning of common areas and restrooms, alongside compromised security due to damaged gates and doors, potentially allowing unauthorized access after hours. Concerns were also raised about the effectiveness of security personnel and closing procedures.
beyond the physical condition, Borromeo is demanding transparency in the administration of market stalls, calling for a thorough review to identify any irregularities in occupancy. He emphasized the need for a clear and transparent overview of the area’s management, suggesting similar inspections should be extended to othre municipal properties within Brindisi.
In response, Borromeo has formally requested all relevant documentation – including cleaning contracts, gate (Bms) management agreements, and private security contracts – from the relevant authorities. He has also requested a detailed timeline for addressing the identified issues.
