WASHINGTON – The United States (US) declared five Israeli units guilty of serious human rights violations.

The US Department of State revealed this on Monday (29/4/2024). The State Department said it had confirmed “incidents of gross human rights violations” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank before the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7.

“After a careful process, we found five Israeli units responsible for incidents of serious human rights violations. “All of this happened before October 7th and nothing happened in Gaza,” US State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel said Monday.

“Four of these units have effectively remedied these violations, which is what we expect our partners to do… For the remaining units, we continue to consult and engage with the Israeli government,” he explained.

Patel said these findings would not have an impact on the transfer of weapons from the US to Israel that were used to massacre Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has indicated a review of Israeli military units is underway.

Blinken said last week that the State Department was conducting an investigation under the Leahy Act, which prohibits sending military aid to foreign security forces that violate human rights.

“I think it’s fair to say that you will see the results soon. I have made a determination. You can expect to see them in the days to come,” said Blinken.
