Italy Commemorates Claudio Villa‘s Centennial with New Stamp
Italy is honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Claudio Villa, a prominent figure in Italian popular music, with the release of a new postage stamp on January 29th. Villa, born Claudio Pica on January 1, 1926, and known affectionately as ”il reuccio” (the little king) by his fans, passed away on February 7, 1987.
About the Stamp
The stamp, designated as a ”B” type, has a value of €1.30, sufficient for postage of a postcard or a standard letter (up to 20 grams) within Italy. It features an image of Villa performing on stage, including his signature. A total of 200,025 self-adhesive stamps have been printed, presented in sheets of 45. The official first-day cancellation will be available at the philately space in Rome, located at piazza San Silvestro 20.

Claudio Villa enjoyed a long and triumphant career, becoming a beloved and recognizable voice in Italy and internationally. His daughters, Andreinaceleste and Aurora Pica, highlighted his enduring impact, stating that his voice “crossed time, establishing itself as a natural reference point. His singing, solid and immediately recognizable, shaped a shared language, capable of speaking to diverse audiences, always maintaining the same authority.”
