CHITS Receives “Filière Remarquable” Label for Lung Cancer Care
The Intercommunal Hospital Center of Toulon-La Seyne (CHITS) has been awarded the “Filière Remarquable” (Remarkable Pathway) label for its lung cancer care, granted by the Regional Health Agency of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (ARS PACA). This five-year accreditation,with a special mention for its commitment to clinical research,positions CHITS among the six centers of excellence in the PACA region for the treatment of this disease.
Lung Cancer: A Major Public Health Issue in the PACA Region
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in France, accounting for 33,100 deaths annually. According to e-cancer.fr, nearly 3,500 new cases are diagnosed each year in the PACA region, with a 10% higher incidence rate compared to the national average, notably in the Var and Alpes-Maritimes departments. Given that 84% of lung cancers are diagnosed at an advanced stage, rapid diagnosis and treatment initiation are critical for improving patient survival rates.
Recognition of CHITS’s Expertise
Following a call for projects launched by the ARS PACA to identify “remarkable” pathways in lung cancer care, and after review by a panel of national experts, CHITS was selected for its demonstrated expertise, organization, and impact on reducing delays and streamlining the patient journey.

Beyond the excellence of its care, CHITS received a special mention recognizing its commitment to clinical research. This investment contributes to therapeutic innovation and allows patients to benefit from the latest scientific advancements.
This five-year label acknowledges CHITS as a key player in the fight against lung cancer in the PACA region and confirms its ability to meet public health challenges, including the growth of organized screening programs.
