Problems with the abundance of brown bears in Slovakia are still increasing. Myslivost magazine, published in the Czech Republic, shared a video on its Facebook profile that confirms the seriousness of the situation. In the post, taken in a field near Liptovský Mikuláš, you can see a large group of bears, they are carelessly wandering around. Bears are not afraid of local residents or tourists, they are said to have lost their shyness and therefore pose an increasing risk. As of Friday, April 12, 30 contracts with hunting associations that are supposed to participate in the shooting of the bear come into force in Slovakia.

Myslivost magazine shared a post on its Facebook page on Saturday last week, which contained a video documenting a group of bears wandering around a field near Liptovský Mikuláš. “Current reality from Slovakia – April 6, 2024 near Liptovský Mikuláš…,” read the published post. The video was probably filmed from a sitting position using binoculars, as there is a noticeable crosshair in the image. The author of the video gives an insight into the entire area around the field, which is full of bears. You are just carefree walking around.

Slovakia takes various measures in the interest of security. As of April 12, the State Nature Protection signed a total of 30 contracts in cooperation with hunting associations. This is specifically an agreement on cooperation in the management of the brown bear population. The administration justified cooperation with hunters due to the need for the necessary equipment and experience. The elimination only concerns bears that have lost their natural shyness and thus pose a risk to humans. The State Nature Conservancy decides on blasting on the basis of a document prepared by the members of the intervention team.

Cases of people being attacked by bears are increasing in Slovakia. The most recent incident occurred last week on Thursday. The running animal knocked down the forester, causing him spinal injuries and fractures. The collision took place in the cadastre of the village of Kvačany in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš. However, this was already the umpteenth such case in recent times.
