“I have always been a rebel who was interested in achievements”, Ernests Rieksts, who was wanted by the Riga City Court in the criminal case for the tragic fire in an illegal hostel in Riga, on Merķela Street, tells the LA.LV portal.

It happened in 2021, when, probably due to arson, flames destroyed the hostel, taking the lives of 8 people. Ernest has called this tragedy the “opening of roast meat season”. He does not hide from LA.LV that he spoke so harshly not because he does not feel sorry for the people who died, he is more interested in why the real reasons for the fire accident are not discussed publicly.

Ernests Rieksts can be reached on social networks, the conversation takes place on the “Zoom” platform. A man calmly walks the streets of Dubai and answers questions. He calls me Karlson, who dared to interview one of the most wanted criminals in Latvia.

The police were not interested in him at all. During the conversation, Ernest is direct and harsh, he has nothing to hide. He is confident that even though he is wanted, he is free to enjoy life and continue to travel.

Ernests reveals to the readers of the LA.LV portal that he first had trouble with the police at the age of 14. About drinking beer in Old Riga. At that time, he allegedly spoke to the police and was subjected to a 3-hour long “life reflection” in solitary confinement. Then followed four more times for similar violations.

“Then I turned 18, my first child was born and I realized that I had to change, improve, not commit any crimes and I quit smoking and alcohol. I had a child, the responsibility was immediately on top, because I am not one of those who abandon children. I believe that children should be taken care of, so I’m here (ed. – Dubai) with a family I haven’t seen in a long time. I have three children of my own and have lived honestly ever since. Of course, that rebel sits inside me and has spoken against me for many years, expressed his opinion, which is loud. And Latvia also hears him. But as if I had done any intentional violation of the law, no, I didn’t. This is not my desire and I do not want to live like this.”

Ernests continues: “I am a scandalous person, who has stepped on the heels of no one. Thanks to my statements, I have been disliked by the ruling power for many years. I have a big group on Facebook. I have 52 thousand people following me. My TikTok videos have been viewed by many millions. I am a person who is very disliked by many. As many haters as I have, I don’t know who else has. But because I have lived in America before, I believe there is freedom of speech. Everyone says what they think. Yes, of course, without harming anyone or breaking any really reasonable laws. Not inviting you to do something you shouldn’t do. In principle, Merķeļa iela 8 – this is the legal proceeding in which, in principle, the judgment has already been pronounced. Many do not even know what is actually happening there. Not knowing that there are three arsonists. Society is kept in such a vacuum. They are told that Ernests Rieksts is guilty somewhere. Ernests Rieksts himself does not understand where he is to blame. Just like my legal representative, who is one of the best lawyers in Latvia – Artūrs Zvejsalnieks, who has said: “Without corruption, I don’t see you being convicted here.” Because in reality, I don’t really have anything to incriminate, I was tried by a drunken judge, who for drinking dismissed from the Jūrmala court… Well, in a nutshell.”

Ernests says that he does not tolerate liars, thieves and people with various addictions. He also had no problem physically dealing with employees who stole from him or came to work under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol abuse is probably the cause of the fire accident on Merķeļa street. As part of the initiated criminal proceedings, Ernests has already spent four months in prison for the crime he was accused of.

“I was tortured for four months, Arthur died in my cell, in my bed, who was arrested for selling drugs. He was tortured, it was the purest torture. It was about 40 degrees in our cell. Arthur died, he was a fantastic person, the others had severe to moderate health problems and I had a heart attack. With a heart attack, they did not take me to the hospital, but instead put me in the basement, and then after two months they did the tests, they saw that there was a heart attack in that cardiogram, and then I was put in Olaine prison. I say thank you very much for putting me in prison. Prison is a very cool thing, I really liked it. I rested, I regenerated, I came out much better than I went in, but where is the philosophy. Someone will have to answer for their torture. Because when I was lying on the floor with a heart attack, no one helps you. The whole prison, all the cells are beating to let out, that a person dies and you are taken to prison, for that, my love, you will have to answer.”

In 2023, the State Security Service has initiated criminal proceedings against Ernesta Riekstas for possible glorification and justification of crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, as well as activities aimed at inciting national and ethnic hatred, as well as discord. This means that if Ernests arrives in Latvia, he will be detained immediately. But the businessman does not want to go back to prison, at least not yet.

“I am now wanted, but I would be arrested in Latvia also for the statements I made about Ukrainians. I have remained at the same point of view, because I have a clear conviction that those parents who are with their children in a war zone, that it is a punishable crime to endanger the lives of their children, but today I am at least happy. I read in the media that these families will be forcibly evacuated from Kharkiv. I believe that it should have been done long ago from the dangerous zones, but the State Security Service started a case against me because I said with such sarcasm that the Russians are scumbags for shooting such idiots. I believe that a person who endangers their children should be held accountable for the consequences they cause because we read every week that children have died. Why have they died? Because the parents continue to live in some dangerous areas that continue to be bombed. There are 27 countries in Europe where you go and live. Yes, it might not be as good as at home, but at the same time you will be safe with your children.

I think it’s very stupid to put your children’s lives at risk.”

The father of three children is not married, but emphasizes how caring and responsible he is towards his children. While relaxing with his family in Dubai, he continues to work as an idea generator. He does not want to tell the readers of LA.LV how much salary he receives per month, but reveals that he is not alone in his business.

One of Ernest’s biggest projects is “New Latvia”, where everyone has opportunities to develop their own business. Two families have already moved there. The man is convinced that the Third World War is no longer behind the mountains and that the island of “New Latvia” in Fiji will be one of the best refuges. There is silence and peace, besides there is no possibility of getting sick with any of the viruses of exotic countries. He understands that in Latvia, because of this business, he is called a fraud, but he is not interested in the opinion of people who live in economic decline.

He does not see prospects for any person in Latvia, because people avoid paying taxes, more people die than are born. In addition, ordinary mortals in Latvia cannot earn adequate amounts to be able to afford the high prices here. From utility bills to food.

Ernests understands that the national police will cooperate with law enforcement officers in Europe to find him and then also announce an international search. But it will take a lot of time, so he will continue to share his harsh thoughts about life on the Internet resources available to everyone and will continue to be one of the most sought after and also the most hated people in Latvia. Although during the conversation, one gets the impression that Ernest himself does not feel good, being in this status.

“I have never been criminally tried in Latvia. Small administrative violations do not count. I don’t know how much I’m in danger. I believe that I am in no danger whatsoever. I am neither to blame nor responsible for fire safety. It seems interesting to me why these arsonists are not brought to justice. Expertise has proven that the fire did not just break out. I think it’s very funny that no one was arrested in Regis, even though the fire didn’t start there anyway. Here, the hunt is open for Riekst, although Riekst has not even allowed a fire there and is not the person responsible for fire safety, but the hunt is open for me. Anyway, as it is, let’s see how it will be. 8 years is the maximum that can be given, but I don’t feel guilty at all and I don’t think that I could be given anything there at all. By the way, I was waiting for this court, I wanted to attend it. I waited for him for how long, it’s not for nothing that I lived in Latvia all the time. But since the thing about Ukraine started for me…

They try to incriminate me for glorifying war or other nonsense, then I realized that I don’t want to sit in prison for nothing and of course I have a project in Fiji that I have to finish. I can’t let my investors down and sit in jail in the meantime, everyone expects results from me.”
