After leaving Avdijivka in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian soldiers will have to retreat from other areas of the front as well. Aleksandras Musienko, head of the Military Law Research Center, spoke about this in an interview with UNIAN.
“Our soldiers must withdraw from the flanks where they were. Now we also need to secure Marijinka’s direction and Vuhledar – the enemy will now be hanging over them all and a tactical withdrawal from certain positions may be necessary. For this, certain defensive lines are being created so that we can continue to successfully contain the enemy,” he explained.
Following the received order, the defenders of Avdijivka withdrew from the city to pre-prepared positions.
“Taking into account the operational situation around Avdiyivka, in order to avoid encirclement and preserve the lives and health of soldiers, I decided to withdraw our units from the city and move to the defense in more favorable positions,” noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian soldiers performed their duty properly, did everything possible to destroy the best units of the Russian army, and also inflicted heavy losses of manpower and equipment on the enemy.
