  • Apple is preparing the premiere of four new tablets in May
  • iPad Pro will have OLED screens, iPad Air will arrive in two sizes
  • The cheaper iPad and iPad Mini are likely to be upgraded in the fall

Since 2010, Apple has presented at least one iPad per year, but last year the company from Cupertino took a tablet break. For this reason, there are high expectations for this year – because Apple should change the entire portfolio of iPads in the course of it. It was originally speculated that the unveiling of the new models would begin this month, but now another date is being suggested.

Four new iPads will arrive in May

The usually accurate insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple will launch the new iPads in early May, a month before WWDC developer conference. According to Gurman, we should expect a change in the iPad Pro and iPad Air model lines, in total Apple should reveal four different variants:

  • iPad Pro in 11 and 12.9″ diagonals
  • iPad Air in 10.9 and 12.9″ diagonals

The larger iPad Air is to become a complete novelty, as this Apple tablet has only been offered in a smaller version so far. Together with the new iPads, Apple should also introduce a new generation of the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil stylus, the new version of which is said to be compatible with the Vision Pro headset.

The Apple iPad range of tablets

The upcoming tablets will of course get new processors. iPad Pros will undoubtedly receive the latest chips of the M3 generation, but a question mark hangs over iPad Airs – due to the price difference, Apple will probably use a generation older M2 chip. Or will it be possible to get more powerful M3 Pro/Max chips into the iPad Pro and the basic M3 into the iPad? This question is still unanswered.

Whatever the situation with the processors turns out to be, there is another significant difference between the iPad Pro and Air. Apple will deploy OLED displays in its flagship tablets for the first time this year, thanks to which the iPad Pro should be record thin – Mark Gurman he spoke recently only 5 millimeters thick. Another difference between the two series will undoubtedly be the camera setup – the Pros will no doubt retain a (minimum) two-camera setup and LiDAR, which will allow them to shoot 3D videos for the Vision Pro kit.

Cheaper tablets in the fall?

If Apple introduces the new iPad Pro and Air in May, it will still have the base iPad and the Mini variant to upgrade. We will probably not see these tablets until this fall.
